What to Expect & Frequently Asked Questions

Book Your Session About Book Your Free Intro Call

Before Your Session

There’s nothing you need to prepare, and nothing to get right beforehand. When you book, we’ll have a brief chat about what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping for - this helps shape the session, but there’s no pressure to have it all figured out in advance.

Wear something comfortable that you can move easily in - loose trousers or leggings rather than jeans tend to work best. The space is quiet and unhurried, so it’s worth arriving a few minutes early to settle in before we begin.

During Your Session

Sessions involve slow, gentle movement - often lying down, fully supported, so your body has the chance to let go of effort. Nothing is forced and nothing should hurt. Rather than something being done to you, you’re guided to notice and explore how you’re moving, at whatever pace feels right.

Throughout, your comfort and feedback matter - if something doesn’t feel right, we adjust, simple as that. This isn’t a passive treatment; it’s closer to a guided learning experience, where your own awareness does the work.

After Your Session

Many people leave feeling lighter or more spacious in their body, though everyone’s experience is a little different. Some notice a change straight away; for others, it settles in gently over the following day or two. A little tiredness afterwards is common, and usually passes quickly.

Lasting change tends to build gradually, session by session, as your nervous system has time to learn new patterns. This isn’t about a single fix - it’s the beginning of a different relationship with how you move.

How Many Sessions Might I Need?

This varies from person to person, and there’s no single right answer. Some come for a single Soma Rest session, simply to experience it. Others find a short series of Clinical Somatic Education sessions gives them the tools they’re looking for. Rather than prescribing a number upfront, this is something we’ll talk through together - based on what you’re hoping to get from the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Approach

Is this like physiotherapy or massage?

Is this like physiotherapy or massage?

Not quite, though it can sit alongside them. Physiotherapy and massage often work on the body from the outside - through stretching, adjustment, or manual pressure. The work here starts somewhere different: with the nervous system, which is what actually controls how tightly your muscles hold themselves. Rather than working on you, sessions help you sense and release those patterns from within.

Is this a form of massage or manipulation?

Is this a form of massage or manipulation?

No. There’s no manipulation, and very little hands-on pressure. Sessions are active and educational - you’re guided through slow movement, and the change comes from your own awareness and nervous system, not from anything done to you.

Will it hurt?

Will it hurt?

No. The movement is always slow, gentle, and kept well within a comfortable range. If anything feels uncomfortable, we adjust straight away - this isn’t about pushing through pain. It’s about finding ways to move that don’t ask for effort or strain.

Is there any basis for this?

Is there any basis for this?

Yes. This approach draws on the field of Somatics, named by Thomas Hanna, which looks at how the nervous system learns and holds patterns of muscular tension over time - often quietly, without us ever noticing. Fascia, the connective tissue running through the body, is closely linked to the nervous system, which is why changing the pattern at its source can allow the surrounding tissue to change too. Many people find that working this way reaches something that approaches focused purely on the muscles or tissue haven’t.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable that you can move easily in. Loose trousers, leggings, or jogging bottoms work well - jeans or anything restrictive are best left at home. You’ll usually keep your socks on, so feel free to bring a pair you’re happy to wear during the session.

Getting Started

What does the free intro call involve?

What does the free intro call involve?

If you're not sure where to start, book a free 15–20 minute call - by phone or video, whichever suits you. There's no charge and no obligation to book anything further. It's simply a chance to talk through what's brought you here, ask any questions, and work out together whether this is likely to help. If it feels like the right fit, we'll talk about which session makes sense as a first step.

I’m not sure which session is right for me — what should I do?

I’m not sure which session is right for me — what should I do?

That’s completely normal, and you don’t need to work it out on your own. Get in touch and choose ‘Not sure yet’ - we’ll have a short, unhurried conversation about what’s brought you here, and figure out together what’s likely to help most.

Can I just try one session to see if it’s for me?

Can I just try one session to see if it’s for me?

Yes. Soma Rest is a lovely way to experience the approach without any commitment - many people start here simply to see how it feels, with no expectation of anything beyond that single session.

What if I have a specific condition?

What if I have a specific condition?

Everyone’s situation is different, and it’s not possible to say in advance whether this work is right for a particular condition. The best step is a short conversation - get in touch, and we can talk through what you’re dealing with and whether this is likely to help, or whether something else might be a better fit.

Still Have a Question?
